The Edge

An inside look at our partnership with E-Books for Troops

Our e-Books for Troops partnership started when Len Edgerly, a big fan of e-readers, was inspired to create E-Books For Troops after receiving a Facebook comment posted by Army Sgt. Andre Corbin back in 2010. It read, 'I am an active duty Army soldier getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan next month; it sure would be nice to have the K2 [Kindle 2] with me during the hours of down time - 'hint hint'. Those two 'hints' from Andre started this whole effort.

Len didn't want to leave Sgt. Corbin's Kindle to chance, so he e-mailed Patrick Mish, founder and CEO of M-Edge, whom Len had recently interviewed. Patrick and his team at M-Edge jumped at the chance to donate a Kindle along with a protective case that would withstand the rugged terrain and an e-Luminator booklight so that Sgt. Corbin could enjoy his Kindle at night. This led to Len's podcast interviews with Patrick and Andre, and the growing realization that Kindles and other e-readers are uniquely well-suited to the realities of soldiers' service abroad.

These efforts together provided the perfect solution for soldiers who were looking to do something more in their downtime than just play video games or watch TV. M-Edge came to the rescue and provided the perfect protection and the perfect light. We wanted to enhance and safeguard their reading experience.

Immediately soldiers expressed interest in receiving e-readers. Since then, the E-Books for Troops program has continued to grow. M-Edge continues to donate a Latitude Jacket and e-Luminator Touch booklight for each Kindle purchased by E-Books for Troops.
