How I Ate 65 Nuggets

In February I accomplished a goal that I am very proud of and that my co-workers still give me a hard time about. I ate 65 chicken nuggets in about 3-4 hours. 65 nuggets is approximately a small party platter from Chick-fil-A. I found out afterwards that it is about 8 full servings, 2166 calories, 2 pounds and approximately or approximately 4 chicken breasts. I would love to say I had a game plan for how I was going to overcome this mountain of chicken, but sadly I did not. It was really a random set of events that led to 65 nuggets in my belly.

The day started off like any other. I had a brainstorming meeting scheduled for my lunch hour and I was in charge of going to Chick-fil-A to pick up the fuel for the meeting. Little did I know that this trip to Chick-fil-A would cause the gluttonous event in my future. I suppose I can thank my co-worker, Josh, for ordering a large platter for 8 people to eat which left an overwhelming amount of nuggets for me to finish. I can't blame Josh without acknowledging my own role in the matter. During the meeting I polished off the first 48. Brainstorming is very intense and I need chicken fuel to inspire creativity. Four plates of 12 nuggets disappeared really quickly. Honestly, I was just as surprised as everyone else that they vanished in a blink of an eye.

I found myself at a crossroad. Jaime and I had discussed that my love for chicken nuggets could be turned into a challenge or even a goal for the year. I had to decide whether I wanted to go for the gold or retreat to a dark place and take a nap. I decided to make a stand. My decision was based on the fact that I try to never back down from a challenge, however, it was closely followed by not wanting to have to eat 48 nuggets again. This may have been a bad choice, but I try to live without regrets so I pressed on.

I have to say 49-55 nuggets weren't so bad, however I hit a wall at 56. Nuggets 56-65 felt like I was walking in the desert toward an oasis that kept getting farther away with every step. All in all I am glad to have completed this specific goal but I am still unsure what I gained from the experience. The experience did, however, inspire this sweet haiku.

I love chicken so
Nuggets in the belly now
Naptime will follow
