Good, but

By D on December 27, 2011

I've used the m-edge reconn jacket in tan for a few weeks now. On the whole it works well with the way I use the iPad, but the design could be tweaked in places. My office is supplying iPads for staff performing field work to provide immediate connectivity with our network. The set up includes the iPad, a bluetooth connected Zagg keyboard, and the rubber Zagg case that accommodates the keyboard and iPad as a single folio. The folio works well in office settings, but I found the rubber case to not be practical in the field for several reasons, and purchased the m-edge recon jacket instead. The jacket is made of a tough fabric, with a good solid zipper and is well padded. The fabric is a military type fabric, easy to grip and not at all slick. The iPad is held in place with a poly mount that fastens on the corners of the iPad. It can be easily removed, but is secure without letting the iPad slip out. I have to carry a property pass with the iPad and it fits very nicely in the mount behind it, immediately available for reference when pulling out the iPad to show the serial number at security checkpoints. The mount also slides up to allow the camera a clear view without fully removing the iPad from the cover. This works very well. The cover folds back well for using the iPad in hand when you're standing or walking. Comfortable to hold. The weaker design points are: 1. the pocket on the front is only gussetted on the sides, not the bottom. This means that you can only fit a small (like a 3x5 card) sheet of paper in it and the iPad power cord's connector does not fitt. This pocket would be much more useful if it were gussetted on all three sides, with a flap type closure instead of the plain opening with snaps. It would be a real advantage to have the power cord or a plug for a vehicle power point/cigarette lighter immediately available when you're in the field all day, and the iPad's battery is running low. 2. Although I like the little velcroed on stand, the stiffener used in it is flimsy and bends too easily. The adjustability in one direction is good, but since it sits next to the pocket on the front cover, it can't be moved to the center of the cover which leaves the iPad drooping to one side when in use. This combined with the flimsy stiffener results in the whole assembly slowly collapsing when in use for more than a few minutes, or when touching the screen or home button on the iPad. I recommend consideration of one of the following fixes: a. move the front cover pocket to the back cover to allow greater mobility for the stand, and use a more solid stiffener in the stand; or b. delete the stand, and add a couple of straps on one edge of the cover to be fastened to the opposite cover edge and allow the cover itself to function as the stand. 3. All the liitle loops on the back cover have no real functionality. they're too tight and narrow to slip much of anything into them. A second pocket would be a better use of the landscape on this cover. Not a flaw, but another suggestion -- perhaps a couple of d-rings can be added at either end of the spine for addition of a shoulder strap. This would be handy to leave hands free when carrying the iPad and climbing ladders or crossing rough footing. All in all, I like the cover and haven't seen any others that look like they'd work better in an industrial setting or field use. This one works very well if you can be tolerant of the few design flaws.

Recon Jacket

By Ian Burton on December 2, 2011

Love this, still retain the Apple cover that contains the magnets to switch on and off. Would recommend. Remarkable service from M - Edge, brilliant service, brilliant iPad case.

Recon - not as protective as it looks

By GM77 on January 4, 2012

Overall a very sturdy case, feels like it will last and great looking with storage for earbuds and thin items. If you have anything with thickness in the outer compartment the snaps dont close. Zipping the case open and close is not a natural process, the zipper folds over and the pull string hides inside the case. I don't feel comfortable leaving the stand inside the cover when having the case in the closed position as it rests against the screen and the material is somewhat rough. Don't know if will scratch the screen but I'm not willing to test it. You won't install or remove the Velcro stand in a quiet setting, it's very loud. The stand is ok, but stretches and is quite springy after a few minutes of use and not very useful. For a case that "looks" protective, it's not when your using the iPad, if you dropped the iPad during use the screen is history. There are more protective cases on the market.

Excellent Case!

By Harrison on January 3, 2012

I love this case! it is true MOLLE equipment. Solid, well built and functional. I love the wrap around zipper, my iPad is completely protected. I have a couple other M-edge cases for my kindles, and I am impressed with the quality.

Great gear

By Mike on July 16, 2012

I bought this needing a strong case for military and law enforcement use. The case is great, it is very functional. The only down side is the pocket size. The pocket is very tight. I think that if they were able to add some elastic then it may be more beneficial. I gave five stars because the pocket is a non issue for me. Well built, and I will look for additional products from this company.

Recon Jacket

By Pieter on March 22, 2012

I received my Recon Jacket 2 days ago. I live in Namibia just North of South Africa and ordered the jacket on Tuesday, 13th March. It was shipped on the 14th and I received it on the 20th. Frrom the USA to Namibia in just 6 days is remarkable service. 5 Stars for M-Edge and FedEx. I like the jacket but must agree with some of the previous reviewers. The straps on the back that is too tight, the pocket that is not gusseted on the bottom and the lack of a magnet to activate/deactivate the iPad are issues that I can agree with. Also, I would have liked to have some sort of option available to attach my bluetooth iPad keypad to the jacket as well. Am I disappointed I bought the recon - the answer is NO. Overall it is a good item to have.

Seems like a good buy.

By Christopher A on November 3, 2012

I can't attest to it's long term durability, but first impression is that the case is sturdy and well crafted. Although slightly bulky, for the level of protection, the case is not too heavy or oversized. The iPad is very difficult to insert and remove from the internal plastic holder, but consequently feels very secure, and well protected when the case is open. The case has many configurations and is conveniently designed. Definitely recommended.

Looks cool but not as functional as I wanted

By Deb D-C on July 4, 2012

The material picks up fur from pets. The loops are too tightly sewn making it near impossible to insert items thru them. The part on the top of the case, I thought was a pouch but it is a stand. Did not meet my expectations.

Awesome iPad cover

By Stuart H on August 23, 2012

This is really a great cover for the iPad. The styling and function definitely capture a military equipment feel, and it also disguises the iPad well. The molle loops are great if you want to store extra ammo pouches, or more likely just an iPad stylus. The pouch on the front is great for storing an accessory or two. The case is compatible with the smart cover. It's easy to use with the smart cover in the book format, but If I want to fold and zipper case inside out to hold everything in one hand or to stand it up with the included stand, I do have to take the smart cover off because the folds in the smart cover won't permit it to fold flat on the back of the Denier. The rear camera is accessible by sliding the clip up the track that retains the iPad. It appears to offer good protection in the event of a drop, but I can't say for sure since I haven't dropped it. I definitely recommend it. You will look like you are a special ops team member when you are toting this around.

Great military grade design

By Virgil on May 10, 2012

Just what I have been looking for. This is a great product for military inspired personnel. Great design, functionality, and protection. It would be even better if there were more designs such as camouflage NWU, DCU, or Green camo. Overall, the best purchase I've made. Thanks M-Edge!
